Hi, I’m Tabassum. I’m a Melbourne artist and a former civil engineer, and I paint abstract realism in oils and mixed media.
I spent 15 years in engineering before I finally gave myself permission to paint full time. That change is in everything I make. My paintings are about strength, transformation and the beauty of imperfection: women finding their voice, owls and peacocks, eucalyptus leaves, and abstracts built up in layers of colour and texture.
I love when someone stands in front of one of my paintings and sees their own story in it.

HOW I PAINT
Where logic meets feeling
I’m originally from India and now paint from my studio in Melbourne. The engineer in me plans the structure of a painting, and the artist in me is free to break the rules on top of it.
I work in layers of collage, texture and oil paint until the surface has real depth. I mix realism with abstraction, with loose marks and bold brushstrokes.
I’m drawn to the psychology of color and to the beauty in imperfect things. Underneath it all, I’m painting the freedom to be your true self.
