    Original painting $900.00

Not long after I left engineering, a triptych I’d painted won the Abstract Horizons exhibition, my first real recognition since betting everything on art. But the doubt didn’t disappear with the win. I’d been underestimated before, in engineering, and I found myself underestimated again as a new artist with no track record. The engineering pages in this piece are buried beneath the surface, only visible where I’ve scraped the paint back, credentials still there, just harder to see until you look closely.

  • Still Becoming

    Still Becoming

    Original painting $4,365.00

Some moments in life ask you to choose. For me it was simple, it’s now or never.

In March 2026 I stepped away from a 15 year engineering career to paint full time. Not because I had it all figured out. I didn’t. But because art is where I feel truly alive and close to my authentic self.

It felt like standing towards the horizon because that’s exactly where I am right now. Somewhere between who I was trained to be and who I actually am. It’s not always comfortable. But it’s the most honest I’ve ever felt.

I paint from my real life experiences. The messy in-between moments. The emotions that don’t have neat edges. The beauty in things that are still becoming.

I collaged my old engineering textbook pages into these paintings. They’re part of the foundation, underneath everything, still holding it together, while something completely new grows on top.

There’s calm and chaos in these paintings because that’s what finding yourself actually feels like.

‘Still Becoming’ is here to say I’m not at the destination yet. This painting is honest about that.

There’s gold in it because there’s real beauty in this season of my life. But there’s also complexity and unfinished edges because that’s the truth of transformation. The journey isn’t neat. It doesn’t wrap up cleanly.

I’m still walking. Still becoming. And for the first time that feels like enough.

  • Still unfolding by Tabassum MalaniStill unfolding

    Still unfolding

    Original painting $1,800.00

In March of this year, I left a career in civil engineering to become a full time artist, with no plan B. It was now or never, and there’s no blueprint for a decision like that. The first few months felt like free fall, the certainty of a paycheck and a title gone, replaced by nothing but the work itself.

Not long after, a triptych I’d painted won the Abstract Horizons exhibition. It wasn’t my first recognition as an artist, but it was the first since I’d bet everything on this path, and it felt like a quiet answer to the question I hadn’t stopped asking myself. Maybe I hadn’t made a mistake.

That win became the seed for this series. Five paintings, three weeks, each one tracing a stage of that year: the leap, the free fall, being doubted again as I started over from nothing, the slow work of building a new career with no instructions to follow, and finally, where I stand now. Not arrived, still becoming, but no longer afraid of being unfinished.

Every piece in this series carries the engineering pages I once drafted other people’s structures on, collaged into the canvas itself, my past discipline folded into a new one I’m still learning.

    Still unfolding

This is the final piece in the series, and where I actually stand right now, several months into a full time art career I once wasn’t sure I could sustain. I left one corner of the canvas unresolved on purpose. It would have been easy to finish it cleanly and call the story complete, but I’m still becoming whoever this version of me is turning into, and I didn’t want the painting to pretend otherwise.

In March 2026 I stepped away from a 15 year engineering career to paint full time. Not because I had it all figured out. I didn’t. But because art is where I feel truly alive and close to my authentic self.

The horizon theme hit close to home because that’s exactly where I am right now. Somewhere between who I was trained to be and who I actually am. It’s not always comfortable. But it’s the most honest I’ve ever felt.

‘The other side’ is to depict, you don’t know what light feels like until you’ve walked through the dark long enough.

This painting is that moment, when the hard climb is behind you and something warm and luminous opens up ahead. Not a destination. Just the first real breath after a long time of holding it in.

There’s still complexity here. Still unfinished edges and layered chaos underneath. But above it all, something glows. Something that was always there, waiting for me to look up.

This is what choosing yourself feels like the morning after you finally do it.

  • The space between

    The space between

    Original painting $4,365.00

There’s a place at the horizon where the earth doesn’t end and the sky doesn’t begin. They simply meet. That threshold is where these paintings live.

This series came out of one of the most honest periods of my life, stepping away from a 15 year engineering career in March 2026 to paint full time. Not because I had it figured out. But because art is where I feel truly alive.

Each painting in this series carries that in-between energy. The calm and the chaos. The weight of what’s behind and the pull of what’s ahead. Look closely and you’ll find pages from my old engineering textbooks embedded in the layers,  the foundation underneath, quietly holding everything together while something new grows on top.

‘The space between’ is all about stillness that comes just before everything changes. This painting lives in that moment, the quiet before the decision, the breath before the leap. Cool and layered, with things hidden beneath the surface waiting to emerge. I didn’t know what was coming. But something in me already knew it was time.

    The Space I Made

That win became the seed for this whole series, and this is the first piece I made once I let myself believe I could build a real career this way. Gold leaf, deliberate geometry, structure built up with intention rather than left to chance. There was no blueprint for starting over at this scale, so I drew my own, layer by layer, the way I once drew blueprints for buildings that were never mine to keep.

Whispers of Color: A Journey Beneath the Surface

    1/2

Art has a way of speaking to us without words, and Whispers of Color does just that. This abstract painting is more than layers of paint—it’s a story told through hues, textures, and light.

The deep blues evoke a sense of calm and mystery, like gazing into the depths of the ocean or the vastness of the night sky. Hidden within these layers are bursts of warm tones, representing fleeting moments of clarity and passion that break through the stillness. It’s as though the painting is whispering secrets, asking you to lean in and uncover its truths.

For me, Whispers of Color reflects the ebb and flow of our emotions—how we carry both calm and chaos within us. It’s a reminder that even in life’s darkest moments, there’s always a glimmer of light, waiting to be seen.

When you stand before this piece, I hope it speaks to you in its own way. Art is deeply personal, and the beauty of abstraction lies in how it invites you to find your own meaning. Whether you see an ocean, a storm, or simply a dance of colors, Whispers of Color is here to remind you that beauty often lies beneath the surface.

Clouds—those mysterious floating forms in the sky—might seem like mere weather phenomena, but what if they had their own spectrum of feelings? What if each passing cloud was a story, a canvas of emotions playing out in the ever-changing atmosphere? That’s the question I dove into with my latest abstract painting, Mood Swings of a Cloud.

At first glance, you might see soft pastels gently meeting bright bursts of color—think of it as the sky’s hidden diary. The pale, almost ethereal cloud-like form floats in the center, serene yet unknowably complex, as if pondering its place in the world. But look closer! Surrounding this calm core is a whirlwind of warm oranges, blush pinks, and vibrant yellows. These hues aren’t just random—they’re the cloud’s shifting moods, moving from peaceful contemplation to moments of fiery intensity.

As I worked on this piece, I imagined the cloud’s day: serene and still in the morning, brewing with a passionate storm by afternoon, and finally dissolving into a soft, dreamy haze by dusk. The abstract shapes dance like fragments of memory—some sharp and defined, others melting into the background—just like the cloud’s moods, never fully concrete, always in motion.

With each brushstroke, I let the unpredictability of the weather take over. You’ll notice bursts of gold hinting at the sunlight that tries to peek through, while streaks of purples and blues linger in the corners, representing those moments when the cloud just feels… heavy. It’s not all stormy skies though; there’s also a playful, almost mischievous side to this cloud that shines through in splashes of bright color.

So the next time you find yourself daydreaming under a cloudy sky, just remember—those clouds might be riding the same emotional rollercoaster as you.
What I loved most about creating this piece was the fluidity. The way clouds never really settle into one state for long inspired me to let my brush wander freely, capturing both light and shadow. It’s a reminder that, much like the weather, our emotions are always changing.
