Some paintings arrive with a clear destination.
Others become a journey.
Still Becoming belongs to the second kind.
When I began this piece, I wasn’t trying to paint a finished story. I was trying to understand a season of my life that was still unfolding. Every brushstroke became a conversation between who I had been and who I was becoming.
This painting reflects the beauty of growth. Not the polished version we often celebrate, but the honest, imperfect process that happens quietly behind the scenes.
Embracing Change
Life rarely follows a straight path.
Leaving my engineering career, moving to Australia, and choosing to become a full-time artist required me to embrace uncertainty. Every decision brought excitement, but also moments of doubt.
Still Becoming captures those emotions.
It reminds me that growth isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about continuing to move forward, even when the destination isn’t completely clear.
Building Through Layers
Like many of my artworks, this painting was created using mixed media and oil on canvas.
Rather than working in a single layer, I gradually built the surface using texture, colour, and collage. Every layer represents a different experience, memory, or emotion.
Hidden beneath the finished painting are fragments of my engineering textbooks.
Although I have chosen a different career, my past remains part of who I am. Those pages symbolise the foundation that helped shape my creative journey.
Nothing is erased.
Everything becomes part of the story.
Colour as Emotion
Colour plays an important role in every painting I create.
Warm tones represent hope and possibility.
Soft neutrals create moments of calm.
Bold contrasts reflect courage, uncertainty, and transformation.
Rather than painting exactly what I see, I paint what I feel.
My hope is that every viewer experiences the work differently and discovers their own personal meaning within it.
Why “Still Becoming”
The title came naturally.
It reflects a truth that many of us share.
No matter our age or experience, we are all still becoming.
We continue learning, growing, changing, and discovering new parts of ourselves.
This painting is a reminder that we don’t need to have everything figured out. There is beauty in the unfinished chapters of life.
Sometimes the journey itself becomes the masterpiece.
A Personal Invitation
When someone welcomes one of my paintings into their home, they aren’t simply purchasing artwork.
They are inviting a story into their space.
If Still Becoming speaks to you, I hope it encourages you to embrace your own journey with confidence, curiosity, and compassion.
Every ending is also the beginning of something new.
